Readiness Is An Imperative

Readiness Is An Imperative

Life requires a certain level of readiness in almost every situation. Different scenarios present different moving pieces. Before you depart for a long road trip, it’s required (though not always adhered to) that you make sure everything is packed, the car has a full tank of gas, the cellphone is charged, and the levels under the hood are satisfactory. While navigating through
school, well-rounded studying was required (though not always adhered to) before entering the classroom for a test because you never knew what would be on the exam. It was required that you prepare for as many variables as possible. In an evil and sinful world, readiness is imperative when it comes to looking after those most dear to us and those who cannot protect themselves. And it’s not just imperative because we need to be ready to be confronted with evil. Readiness to defend the helpless reflects the heart
of God to whom we will give an account.

Psalm 82:3-4
Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.

What steps are you taking to maintain readiness in your life? From a physical perspective, are you maintaining your health should circumstances put your body to the test? When it comes to handling your weapon(s), are you routinely training in different ways, such as handling, reloading, and shooting? Do you keep your weapon clean so that it will function properly whenever it’s needed? Does your family have a plan of action should you, God forbid, need to deal with a home invasion or some sort of crime? The requirement of readiness never ceases – physically or spiritually. Though physical readiness offers several advantages in this life, spiritual readiness offers all the more, especially in the life to come. What is your standing before God? Have you accepted His free gift of eternal life through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus? If you are a Christian, what is your level of readiness today? The Bible calls us to live actively for the Lord, living a life worthy of the calling we’ve received. God’s desire for you is that you will be ready when He calls you to be with Him. May we all pursue readiness this day, for we’re not guaranteed tomorrow.

Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus

Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
